Preston Miller (Integrity Auto Service): Happy Test Drive Tuesday, from Integrity Auto Finance. We’re doing a test drive on a 2014 Chevy Silverado 4X4. We usually do our test drives on really flashy diesels or lowered trucks or lifted trucks; this one’s just kind of your average pickup. It’s a 2014, has 115,000 miles on it. But not everybody wants a big, flashy lifted truck, you know?

Dontay Pompey (Sales Manager): Right, right.

Preston: It’s just more stuff to worry about; more money to replace that kind of stuff. Some people like them plain. This one’s not real plain, but it’s a lot closer that [the trucks] we usually do.

Dontay: I was about to say it’s hard to call this one “plain” as far as its inside, for sure.

Preston: That’s Chevy’s touchscreen stereo. It’s got Bluetooth, Pandora, all that stuff.

Dontay: Well, my car doesn’t have that.

Preston: Pretty high tech!

Dontay: A lot of people want the half-ton pickups, and we sell them just as fast because they like the gas on those, but they’re also “money makers” on the side. A lot of people make additional income with these trucks, whether it’s helping a friend move or cutting some lawns.

Preston: We sell a lot of guys work trucks and diesels and stuff. The fact of the matter is, if you don’t necessarily need to have a big diesel truck, it’s just going to save you money if you buy a truck that’s cheaper on gas and cheaper to insure and easier to drive around and park, that kind of thing.

Somebody has put towing mirrors on it. These are the towing mirrors that you can get on the 3/4-ton trucks. It’ll give you a little more mirror out there on the side of the truck so you can see what’s going on.

Dontay: Visibility’s good.

Preston: I don’t know if you can hear it in the video, but it’s got Flowmaster Exhaust on it. It sounds good, not too loud and obnoxious, but gives you that nice, sporty rumble.

Dontay: Just enough for the low, low bass. Is this a third seat, too?

Preston: Yeah — you fold this up, 60/40 bench. You can seat six in here if you needed to.

Dontay: If you wanted an SUV to seat six, but didn’t want to give a truck up, you don’t have to give a truck up; you could actually get one of these and still fit a whole family of six inside.

Preston: Plenty of room in the back seat. I don’t think they have quite as much room as the Fords — the Fords have a little bigger cab — but this crew cab Chevy’s got plenty of room back there.

Dontay: I can’t tell the difference; I can’t myself. I can’t tell the difference at all, man. That’s huge!

Preston: It’s got a bed liner to make stuff easier to pull in and out of the bed without scratching it and denting it up.

Active Fuel Management

Preston: It’s just your average truck — good on gas, cheap to insure, reliable. It’s got Chevy’s 5.3L V8 in it with active fuel management. So, when you’re on the highway cruising down the road at 60, 70 miles an hour, half the motor can shut off and go in a four-cylinder mode, saves you that much more fuel. Then whenever you romp on it, like if you’re pulling a trailer, it kicks it back into V8-mode. So you get a full-size truck, four-wheel-drive crew cab, but it also has the capabilities to save you a lot of money on fuel. That’s something that you can’t find in your 3/4-tons and your diesels.

Dontay: Does the work, depending on when it’s needed.
